Deep Ping is a short underwater puzzle by kibbitz. You chart a dark grid. Each charted tile reports the combined threat of the creatures next to it, in the way a minesweeper number reports mines. The aim of a dive is the hatch that leads down. The listing calls the free portion a demo of the first two dives, Reef and Kelp. The paid game, listed at $2.49, adds Wreck, Abyss, and a squid boss. A run is described as five to ten minutes. This page does not take payment.
How a session of Deep Ping starts
Open a dive and the grid is mostly unknown. Tap a tile to chart it. Long-press to mark a tile you do not want to enter yet. Sonar is the active tool: a ping on a jelly or a mine first makes that threat harmless, and against the giant squid a ping shows the weak side. Defeating creatures gives XP. Each new rank restores the submarine’s hull and makes the hull larger. Touch, mouse, and keyboard are all listed, including phone and tablet.
What you actually decide
The interesting choice is whether to chart, mark, or spend a ping. A ping that makes a mine harmless is a different spend from a ping that only lights empty water. The hatch is the exit, so a safe path that never finds it is a failed dive. There is no class select and no gear build in the notes. Growth is the hull rank, not a talent tree.
Controls and the first screen
Tap to chart, long-press to mark, and use the sonar control the game draws for a ping. The listing also says the demo can be downloaded for Windows or Linux, while the full version is offered in the browser and on those desktops. Click the frame before you trust a keyboard shortcut the on-screen buttons already cover.
What the listing does not promise
Do not describe the $2.49 edition as free. The free demo stops after Reef and Kelp. This directory has not timed a dive itself. The five-to-ten-minute figure is the listing’s, not a measurement from this site. Saves and account features are not described beyond browser play on itch.io.
Where Deep Ping runs
Deep Ping is published by kibbitz on itch.io. This directory does not host the build, does not re-upload it, and does not put the author’s files inside an iframe unless the author offers an allowlisted embed. Use the official link on this page. If a control, a price, or a version on itch.io disagrees with a sentence here, the author page wins. Pay and download buttons, if you want the later dives, are on kibbitz’s page.
A first sitting
Play the Reef dive until you can tell a threat number from a mark. Spend one ping on purpose, then look for the hatch instead of clearing every tile. If the demo ends in Kelp, that is the free edge. The squid is not in it.
